Public Safety, Fire & Emergency Response
Measure service levels, response needs, contracts, station capacity, and prevention—not just slogans about safety.
The Concern
Residents expect timely emergency response, visible law enforcement, reliable fire/EMS capacity, and honest information about what services cost.
What Deltona Can Actually Control
The City funds and contracts for law-enforcement services and directly governs important fire-service and emergency-management decisions, while operational command structures are separate from an individual Commissioner.
My Current Commitment
I will review public-safety performance using service levels, response data, staffing/capacity needs, contract obligations, and resident concerns while respecting professional operational command.
Proposed Actions
- Review Sheriff contract performance measures and public reporting.
- Track fire call volume, station coverage, apparatus, and staffing needs.
- Support prevention and community-safety programs where evidence supports them.
- Require clear budget explanations for major public-safety increases.
Research Still Needed
Sheriff contract, response metrics, fire station/call-volume studies, staffing, apparatus replacement, and emergency-management plans.
Working position: This page can change when better evidence, legal constraints, costs, or community priorities justify a change. Changes should be explained publicly.
